The New Life Christian Church in Cardigan have been praised for their hard work after they raised £25,000 to help build a new school in an African slum.
MP Mark Williams for Ceredigion congratulated the humanitarian work of the church in Cardigan for their work in building a new school in Keko, a slum area of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
Mr Williams met with Doug and Janice Bell - overseeing pastors at the church - who outlined the plans and the work so far.
The church has so far raised £25,000 which has enabled them to purchase the land and begin building work.
The school will train teachers as well as local young children in an area where education is lacking and many are forced to live on the streets.
Mr Williams said: “I was very impressed with the commitment of the church to build this school. I have visited Dar es Salaam myself and have seen first-hand the challenges in providing education for young people in the city.
“The church has inspired many people locally to contribute their time, resources and money on this fantastic initiative and I look forward to hearing of the schools completion in the not too distant future.”
