A group of children who spend their summer holidays every year in New Quay decided they wanted to take on a holiday project this year.

After much debate between the group of four to nine year old children they came up with the idea of raising money for the local lifeboat station.

Evie Cosslett Campbell, aged nine, became the leader and the entrepreneurial children planned to make items which could be sold on the beach and in the local streets of New Quay.

With a little guidance from their parents the children made lots of shell key rings, painted pebbles, pictures of boats and made small jewellery.

They set up a beach shop; between their sales efforts and variety of homemade gifts the group raised just over £70.

They are handed over the hard earned money on Friday, August 26 outside the lifeboat station to Roger Davies, Deputy Launch Authority, and Ben Billingham, Station Mechanic.

Roger commented: “What a wonderful way these young people had of using some of their holiday time. They developed a community spirit at a young age and gained skills in making the items they sold and working as a team. The RNLI at New Quay would like to say a big thank you for their donation.”
