A CROSS Inn mother-of-two who “deplores drink-drivers” overturned her car while over the limit when on her way home after a rare night out, a court has heard.

Kirsty Lee Davies, 28, of Penrhiwgaled Lane, admitted driving while over the legal alcohol limit, when she appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates.

Helen Tench, prosecuting, told the court that Davies called the police after her VW Polo overturned on the B4577 road just after midnight on July 7.

Miss Tench said: “No one was hurt, but the car had overturned in the roadway and there was a gouge in the hedge.

“The defendant was sitting on the road with her hair obscuring her face.

“She was not compliant with officers and she ignored their questions.”

Davies told police that her head hurt.

She was taken to hospital and a breath sample showed she had 54mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

Janem Jones, defending, said Davies was “devastated” to find herself in court.

“She told me she deplores drivers who drink,” said Miss Jones.

She said Davies was a young mum who seldom went out, but had been to a pub prior to the crash, having planned to stay with friends.

“She did not intend to drive at all. The couple she was with started to argue,” said Miss Jones, “She does not like arguments and left.”

The court heard Davies had tried to call friends to collect her, but could not get an answer.

Miss Jones said: “She made the fatal mistake to drive. It’s a very nasty bend where her car tipped, there have been a lot of accidents there.

“She called the police and was in a state of shock. She was compliant, but was hanging her head down because her neck was hurting.

“She feels she has let everybody down. It’s a blip, she has never done it before.

“It was a risk that night just to get home.”

Davies was banned from driving for 12 months, and fined her £200.

She was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
