The 162nd Cardigan Agricultural Show has been hailed as "one of the best shows in the country" as crowds of thousands flocked to the landmark event at Briscwm fields.

The show drew in competitors from Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and beyond, ensuring stiff competition and incredibly high standards across all classes.

A few changes to the event, such as the inclusion of entertainment sections and an invitation to local producers to show their wares at the Food Hall, also proved a massive hit and added to the success of the day.

Show Secretary Delyth Williams was left tired but delighted.

"I think the show was very successful," she said.

"The weather was on our side, and it wasn’t beach weather.

"The car park was full and a lot of people were to be seen around the field.

"It was also the first time for the YFC Sheep Shearing competition to be held and it was a huge success and really entertained the crowds. We will be looking at improving on this next year."

Cardigan Mayor Cllr Clive Davies said he was amazed by the sheer number of visitors and the standard of entries and exhibits available.

“It was an excellent show, clearly attendance was up this year and we had great weather from an excellent viewpoint of Cardigan and Teifi estuary," he said

“With the changes implemented a few years ago with demonstrations, entertainment ring and the Food Hall, it’s made a difference.

"The Food Hall was one of my favourite parts of the show especially with the variety of stalls selling and offering samples of local produce.”

Visitors were well entertained with trade exhibits and livestock judging, sheepdog displays, falconry shows and even a stuntman.

Thirteen section winners competed for the supreme championship from the horse and pony classes and there was fierce competition in the cattle section which saw the class winners parade around the main ring towards the end of the day.

“The show has something there for the whole community, whether agricultural, local or tourist," said Cllr Davies.

"In the flower and produce tent, one of the judges said that the quality of the entries were better than those at the Royal Welsh Show.

“This was the 162nd year of the show and its still one of the best one-day county shows to be had anywhere."
