When Llandysul resident Alice Bacon fell of a horse at a local horse show in 2013 she was flown by the Welsh Air Ambulance to Morriston Hospital.

As a way of thanking the Welsh Air Ambulance, Alice and her friends have just completed a 66 mile walk along the Ceredigion coastal path to raise vital funds for the charity.

"It was an amazing experience with views you wouldn't believe. It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done - having to push myself to keep going further than I thought I could was 100% mind over matter! I’m not too certain how much we have raised so far, as we are still waiting for a grand total and some people are still sponsoring us," said a delighted Alice.

"We had such a laugh but also had many tears through the tough parts. It was a massive achievement and a huge challenge for us all. I struggled yesterday on the last day but it was well worth it."

The walk started in Ynyslas, Borth and finished in Cardigan with a few de-tours off route to collect donations and Alice can’t believe how generous people have been.

"People have been amazing and so supportive with Princess Gate donating water for us on the journey," said Alice.

She added: "Greggs of Aberystwyth supplied us with free food on day one, and several camp sites, such as Ty Mawr Caravan Park and Pencarreg Holiday Park gave us reduced rates. The Ship Inn, Tresaith had a whip around too and donated £60."

Alice was treated in the intensive care unit at Morriston and had quite a long stay in hospital having suffered a severely lacerated liver.

"I remember one thing I kept saying to myself after my accident 'you never think it will happen to you. Unfortunately, we never know what is around the corner, and we will never know if, and when we will need the Wales Air Ambulance. These guys do a great job and without them who knows where I would be now."
