The only person to be punished for his part in a night which saw a 14 year old girl have sex with four different men was sentenced today (Monday).

Swansea crown court heard that it was likely that 18 year-old Rhys Michael Jones, of Maes y Felin, Cardigan, would not have been charged with an offence in the first place if three older men had not been taken to court at the same time.

On Monday, Jones was made the subject of a 12 month community order and placed under supervision for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a £60 court surcharge.

Jones had admitted sexual activity with a child.

He knew the girl and was aware of her age.

James Jenkins, prosecuting, said the offence arose out of what happened at a party held at a flat in St Dogmaels on the night of October 18, 2014.

He said the girl had told her family she would sleep over at a friend’s house, but instead the pair went to a pizza restaurant and met Jones who invited them to the party.

The court heard the girl had sexual intercourse with Jones and then with Jason Williams, aged 20, of Maes yr Haf, Cardigan and Mark Jones, 22, of Pant y Grwndi Farm, Fishguard.

Mark Jones and Mr Williams denied being aware of her age and were found not guilty of sexual activity with a child.

She then had intercourse with Kamil Anton, aged 28, who had admitted having sexual intercourse with her but denied knowing of or suspecting her true age.

He was cleared of rape and sexual activity with a child.

That, said Mr Jenkins, left only Rhys Jones to be dealt with.

Jones’ barrister, Janet Gedrych, said he had been charged only because the other three had been involved.

“He would not be here today if the other three had not been charged,” she added.

Judge Peter Heywood described the 14 year old as “a sexually experienced young lady.”

He said she had fully consented to sex with all four men.

But Rhys Jones had behaved stupidly and needed some supervision.
