A MILESTONE birthday turned sour when a drunk father assaulted a long-term friend, a court has heard.

Jason George Henriques, who now lives at 37 Brooklyn Avenue, Birmingham, appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting Samuel Hill by beating at Drefach Velindre on March 19.

The court heard that Henriques was visiting the home of his ex-partner on his 40th birthday, to see his child and her other children.

Helen Tench, prosecuting, said the defendant was described as "civil but drunk" when he arrived at the house, and he later left to get more alcohol.

Mr Hill went into the bedroom when Henriques returned, and he followed him.

Henriques then started to attack him, swinging at him and grabbing Mr Hill, stating he wanted to kill him.

Mr Hill managed to fend off the attack, and shortly afterwards Henriques’ former partner threw his belongings out and asked him to leave.

Miss Tench said: “The defendant came back in through an open window.

"Mr Hill called the police, but the defendant took the phone from him and terminated the call.”

David Williams, defending, said his client and the victim had been friends for nearly 15 years, and no visible injury had been sustained.

He said: “Mr Henriques had visited intending to see the children and spend a short amount of time with them.

“There arose an argument between the three parties, based on nothing of great significance.”

Mr Williams added that no children were in the house at the time of the incident, and that the police described all three parties as "very intoxicated".

He said: “Alcohol does not always help sensitive situations.

"There was a tussle between Mr Henriques and Mr Hill, and that was it.”

Magistrates fined Henriques £80 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs plus a £20 victim surcharge.
