CARDIGAN swimming pool has “turned a corner” with trustees and employees pushing hard to make the facility prosper.

Councillor Catrin Miles reported to the Cardigan Town Council that the pool’s recent open day had proved a huge success, but the facility had faced devastating cuts in recent years and has struggled to stay a float.

Last year the pool suffered cuts of £20,000 in funding from Ceredigion County Council and the Welsh Government. This year, management could face be facing a further £10,000 cut.

“The trustees and staff have worked very hard for weeks putting down new carpets and painting to try and attract new customers,” said Cllr Miles.

“We feel as though we have turned a corner but there are still things that need to be done.”

At the open day, £460 was raised through raffles and generous donations.

The trustees of the pool are all volunteers and are continuing to work hard planning fundraising activities as they look to make the pool as efficient as possible.
