Students from Coleg Ceredigion have once again been getting involved to support of Fairtrade Fortnight.

Fairtrade Fortnight, which ran from February 29 to March 11, aims to raise awareness of the plight of farmers in the developing nations.

The theme of this year’s campaign was 'Sit down for breakfast and stand up for farmers’.

Students across both campuses pulled together to help farmers feed their families by pledging to buy Fairtrade products for breakfast.

Catering students at the Aberystwyth campus held a pop-up cafe serving a breakfast of Fairtrade sourced ingredients and incorporating Welsh recipes in celebration of St David’s Day.

Meanwhile Catering students at the Cardigan campus prepared banana muffins and orange juice which they served to staff and students.

Students at Cardigan also created banners and at Aberystwyth, students organised an Easter egg hunt.

They also wrote and performed a song for a video based on the themes of the campaign.

Coleg Ceredigion Principal, Jacqui Weatherburn, said: “Once again this year, our staff and students have demonstrated our total commitment to the Fair Trade ethos through a series of fun events with an important message: 'supporting others for a sustainable future for us all."

"I am delighted at the enthusiasm and passion that the Fair Trade message continues to engender at the college; long may it continue.”
