The race is on to find the get Cardigan’s first Soap Box Derby on track.

Organiser Ben Cramp is looking for the perfect place to hold the Derby after the Sainsbury’s site proved unsafe.

The Cardigan businessman is hoping to organise the event to raise money for Cardigan Cancer Care.

His favourite location where Sainsbury’s was planned to be built fell through and he is now scouring the Cardigan area for the next best location.

Town Cllr Mark Cole said: “The race site at Sainsbury’s was not suitable because they have discovered a whole at the top of the site. For safety reasons that site was not suitable.”

“Well the reason there are holes is because they let cow boy builders do the work,” said Cardigan Mayor John Adams-Lewis.

The Soap Box Derby is set to have an over 18s category and a junior category, which would have fewer “risks”.

Ben wants 100 per cent of the money raised to go to Cardigan Cancer Care and he is hoping as many people will come forward and help run the event.
