Disappointment for town councillors as Cardigan Town misses out on free car parking.

The decision to not change the current car parking charges in Ceredigion was made by Cabinet members.

A full consultation was made by the Council to look into all the car parks and talk to local business people.

Cardigan Traders and residents of the town have pushed for free parking ever since the boost to trade it could create was discovered.

Vandals broke the ticket machines in Cardigan which left months of free parking during the summer of 2015.

During that time traders saw a boost of over 20% in trade and have since campaigned for free parking.

In a Town Council meeting on March 1 town councillors discussed their disappointment that there would be no free parking.

Cllr Mark Cole commented: “The County Council chose to adopt many of the recommendations. But the most important thing was for people to get free parking between 9am-11am was not accepted.

“Cabinet decided not to do that at this time but it might be something they look at in the future. They have not closed the door on these plans more like kicked it into the long grass for a while.”

“Parking charges are not going up for 2016/17 and that is one thing we can really be happy about and must remember,” said Cllr Catrin Miles.
