THE Welsh Ambulance Service has reassured people across west Wales following a warning that there could be a shortfall in available ambulances this weekend.

ITV Wales reported earlier today that it had seen a document warning emergency services in parts of Wales to be mindful when requesting ambulances this weekend due to "a potential of significant shortfall" in ambulance response and availability.

The document said the problem could impact on large parts of mid and west Wales.

ITV Wales said it understood that police and the fire service were informed of the potential problems at a meeting earlier this week.

But Welsh Ambulance Service has responded, saying the information seen was out-of-date.

A spokesman said: “It is unfortunate that out-dated information about the anticipated level of ambulance cover in West Wales this weekend has made its way into the public domain and has given rise to unwarranted concern.

“Resourcing is a dynamic process and we would like to reassure the public that ambulance cover across west Wales is at safe levels this weekend, with sufficient ambulance and rapid response vehicle cover in place.”
