Messrs Dai Lewis Cyf Auctioneers report as follows: Another good entry forward in all sections (239). Barrens met a slightly easier run for all cateogries as per national trends. Beef breeds peaked at 150.0p/kg and levelled at 125.3p/kg, while Dairies topped at 118.0p/kg and came to a mean of 95.6p/kg. Cows and Calves sold to a good demand, topping at £1400. Weaned Calves and Store Cattle sold to another brisk trade from start to finish, with a lot of younger cattle being keenly contested for.

PRIME LAMBS (690): A good entry of lambs was seen with the average very similar to the previous week at a respectable 155p/kg the same as the national average. But plenty of lambs crossed the £70 mark which was a major barrier last week. Top and leading prices as follows:

STORE LAMBS (66): Peaking at £68.80 were 47.5 kilos from Wells, Glaneiri; others sold at £64.50 for 42.5 kilos from Toddingtons Ltd, Castle Cenlas; £64.50 for 41 kilos from Parkes, Pengaer; £59 for 39.5 kilos from Davies, Blaenwaun.

CULL SHEEP (134): Good “fit” ewes sold to a top of £91 from George & Sons, Ffynnon who also sold at £80 and £77; other leading ewe prices at £85.50 from Jones, Hafod Y Dail who also sold at £72; £83 from Drage, Penfai Farm; £74 from Perkins & Co, Dinas Island. Rams topped the day’s trading at £100 from Davies, Blaenwaun who also sold another ram at £97; £78 for a ram from Drage, Penfai.

CALVES (41): Topping at £350 was a Lim bull from Richards, Llain; other leading prices at £222 for a Hereford heifer from Sollis, Ffynnonddofn who also sold a Hereford bull at £218 and another Hereford heifer at £195; £222 for a Hereford bull from Jenkins Tyhen Ltd, Tyhen; £200 for a Lim bull from Vaughan, Tynewydd. The best black and white bull calves topped at £95 from Fletcher, Tynewydd.

Evans Bros. report: Phenomenal trade yet again in the cull section with a continuing demand on all types, as they have done in the passed few months with good numbers being presented. Nearly 900 Fat Lambs presented saw a slight dip in form from last weeks average but sold to a top price of £75.90 to D J Billany, Cwmclydan, an increase on last week.
