Tea on the terrace of the Houses of Parliament was up for grabs at a charity ball raising money for farmers in financial difficulty.

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I) and children’s charity Noah’s Ark were chosen to benefit from the Capestone Charity Ball, held at Slebech Park Hotel in Pembrokeshire on Saturday, July 11.

Justin and Kate Scale from Capestone Organic Poultry hosted a fabulous evening celebrating the best of Pembrokeshire produce. Music was provided by Symphony Sid and The Swing Kings.

Prizes in the grand auction included a tour of the Houses of Parliament with afternoon tea on the terrace and a bottle of House of Commons whisky signed by David Cameron, kindly donated by The Rt Hon Stephen Crabb MP, Secretary of State for Wales, who was present at the ball with his wife Beatrice. Also on offer was a two night weekend stay at The Farmers Club, London, six bottles of Pol Roger Champagne, a case of wine and a lawnmower.

R.A.B.I is a welfare charity which helps farmers and farmworkers of all ages, giving out grants of around £2 million each year. In 2014, R.A.B.I helped people claim around £379k in state benefits and more than £297k was paid out in grants to working farmers. Much of the funding comes from public donations, events arranged by county committees, and support from businesses and community groups. Last year, R.A.B.I gave out more than £23,000 in Pembrokeshire alone.

R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones, said: “I would like to thank Justin, Kate and all the staff at Capestone for choosing us as one of their nominated charities. I would also like to thank Sophie Cole at Capestone for securing some absolutely fantastic auction items and raffle prizes.”

Pembrokeshire county committee member Hilary Raymond, wife of NFU president Meurig Raymond, added: “It was a fabulous evening and it’s not often I manage to get Meurig onto the dance floor - he’s usually discussing NFU matters on such occasions. Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who have been extremely generous in their support of this charity ball.”

The event raised approximately £7,000 to be shared between the two selected charities. A presentation will be made at a later date
