Welsh charity runners pounded the streets of London to raise thousands of pounds for farming charity Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I).

The team of Welsh runners took part in the British 10k London race on on Sunday, July 12.

Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) general administration and facilities manager, Peter Davies and mother and daughter team Ann and Sara Robinson from the charity’s Montgomery committee joined an estimated 13,300 others for a race around London’s famous landmarks for the British 10k London Run.

Volunteers travelled from as far as Montgomeryshire, Ceredigion and Northamptonshire to take part in the capital’s race – the 14th consecutive and final year that R.A.B.I has entered a team in the event.

R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones said: “Peter and Ann have run the 10k for R.A.B.I in previous years and this year was Sara’s first - their commitment to helping farming people through their fundraising activities is to be commended.”

R.A.B.I chief executive Paul Burrows, also a British 10K London Run veteran said: “Some of our entrants travelled a long way to take part in this, R.A.B.I.’s final year of entering the 10k event, and we very much appreciate it. Our volunteers and supporters have always gone the extra mile to support farming families – and this is an example of their dedication.”

Last year’s race raised some £6,000 for the charity.

R.A.B.I is a grant-making charity which helps farming people of all ages if they are in financial difficulty; it gave out grants of some £256K to farming families and individuals in Wales in 2014.
