West Wales rally crew Sebastian Ling and Aled Rees have just returned from another outstanding performance and top podium result on the latest round of the French national Rally Championship, the Rallye Du Ternois.

Sebastian Ling is a Newcastle Emlyn Rally driver and this was the ninth running of the event, which was held on July 3 to 5 in the stunning Country side region of Arras, Northern France, close to the Belgium Border.

The three day event would throw up a lot of different challenges for the crews as they would tackle a number of different stages, all being sealed surface, but ranging from fast flowing tarmac roads, to twisty, dusty concrete farm tracks.

The Rally was based in the Motor Racing Circuit of Croix, Saint Pol, and it was here that the pair really showed what they were capable of with a fastest stage time.

The crew had been seeded at a lowly 17th place for the event, as they are not regulars in the French Championship but they soon made the organisers realise their mistake by setting a string of top three fastest stage times throughout the first day.

The lack of pre-event testing wasn’t standing in the way of the Welsh crew as they constantly embarrassed more powerful machinery with their pace during the event.

The guys were using their trusted Mitsubishi EVO X R4 for the event and as usual it was impeccably prepared by the Pro-Dent PLE Rally Team .

"The stages here are really rewarding and so much fun to drive, the fast flowing nature of them really suits my driving style,"said Sebastian.

"We felt that as though our pace was more or less spot on from the beginning of the rally and this made us relax quicker into the event and find a good fast rhythm," added Aled.

Tyre choice was crucial, and they were lucky to be assisted by Khumo Tyres which have supplied the boys with the perfect tyre choice and advice for these challenging conditions.

The following two days, the crew set about opening a substantial gap in the R4 class and keeping it to the end of the rally. Such was the pace and consistency of the boys, that they finished the rally in third place overall, and winning the R4 class by a massive three minutes.

In fact the only cars that defeated them on the Rally was a Toyota Corolla WRC and Mini WRC, both being driven by leading French Championship drivers.

The guys have not yet got any firm plans for the rest of the season, but following the success from this weekend, a few more invitations have arrived from the French National Championships for Sebastian and Aled to return there to compete in the near future
