RNLI lifeguards have got used to people they rescue tweeting them to say thanks.
But one unexpected casualty nursed back to life last week sent tweets of an entirely different kind – through its beak!
Lifeguards Ffion Mather and Ieuan Edmonds were stunned when a bird flew into the glass pane of their lifeguard unit at Newport beach. The bird hit so hard it left a flurry of feathers and plummeted 15 feet in an unconscious state to the floor.
There was hardly a sole on the beach due to the stormy weather so they brought the bird into the unit for treatment. It regained consciousness after about two hours, before making a full recovery.
It was so grateful it even hopped up onto Ffion’s shoulder to pose for a picture before flying off.
Ffion said: "Judging by one of the pictures I believe the little bird was wholly grateful and satisfied with the medical care it received!"
