Owners of the Trewern Arms Hotel in Nevern, Kevin Jones and Vicky Williams have raised over two thousand pounds for Tenvous Cancer Care.

Kevin’s sister Denise Evans from Pencader was diagnosed with Lymphoma in early 2015 and received support from Tenovus Cancer Care.

Speaking about why he chose to support the charity, Kevin said: “I wanted to raise awareness of this terrible disease that affects so many families. Tenovus Cancer Care has shown such great support to my sister through this difficult time, therefore as a result I feel that it is important to raise money as a contribution towards the charity, in order for them to help others who will sadly need it in the future.”

Those who joined in on the fun at The Trewern Arms on April 25 were entertained by comedian and singer Dai Reynolds, and a raffle and auction.

Kevin who had been growing his beard and hair for about four months also took part in a sponsored beard shave which was carried out by local barber Christopher Mann.

In total £2331.55 was raised for the charity.

He said: “One of the effects of Denise undergoing chemotherapy was the loss of hair and due to this I decided to grow a beard for the very first time for the sponsored shave.”

Meinir Lewis, Community Fundraiser for West Wales at Tenovus Cancer Care said “We are enormously grateful to Kevin and his friends and family for their fundraising efforts.”

“Events like these, which are organised by our supporters make a huge difference and enable us to continue to provide our services in local communities across Wales. Kevin, Denise and their family have experienced first-hand why the support and services Tenovus Cancer Care offer is so important, and I’m so thankful to them for wanting to give something back.”
