Talking about his preparation, Matthew explained: “Training started in January and I’ve managed to get in 1200 miles of training so far around the very challenging roads of West Wales as well as countless hours in the gym through the winter evenings and a special thank you to Sheila who runs the spin class in Cardigan Leisure Centre. These classes were a great help and brought my cycling on a great deal.

“I’ve never taken part in a multi day cycle event before, and I haven’t actually ridden a 100 miles in one go before either let alone 425 over four days.”

He is taking part in this challenge because he wants help Macmillan Cancer Support in any way he can, stating that the support they offer is fantastic and they cannot operate without people like himself fundraising.

The is one challenge which Matthew believes will be the hardest thing to deal with during the challenge for him is the sun.

“I’m going to bathe in sun cream,” he said.

Matthew finished off by saying: “I lost my grandfather to cancer and he has been gone for over 20 years now. We were very close and not a week goes by where I do not think about him. He was known to all the grandchildren as D.S. This is for you D.S.”
