AT the beginning of July, mother of three Nerys Craig and her young family will travel to the South of France to raise vital funds for a local venture close to her heart.

Nerys, is currently the co-ordinator at Canolfan Hermon near Crymych, and before her six month contract comes to an end next month, she plans on raising £1,000 for the Frenni Youth Project held in the Centre.

Nerys and her children – 12 year old Iolo (a pupil at Ysgol y Preseli), Isla age 10 and 15 month old Tyrae will cycle 68 miles over three days and two nights as they follow the Canal Du Midi, which connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean. Canal Du Midi was once considered to be one of the greatest construction works of the 17th century and means canals of the two seas.

"A few years ago I took part in the Lôn Las Challenge and cycled from Anglesey to Cardiff Bay. It included cycling over three National Park terrains and was very challenging, but I was a lot fitter then!"laughed Nerys.

At the end of July, Nerys’s role in Canolfan Hermon will cease, but she wants to ensure that youth projects will still play a vital role in the centre’s activities, and this means that a lot of money needs to be raised to ensure that the bilingual activities for the children in the area continues.

"I’ve had a meeting with Baseline Circus and they are keen to host workshops here in the future. The youths would then be able to take part in the final circus production," explained Nerys. "The workshops would take place here in Canolfan Hermon with the actual performance needing a bigger space with a stage for projection and movement.

"This all costs money but the children will have so much out of it.

"So I’m hoping that the money I raise will go towards ensuring that the Circus and other organisations from Cardiff and Bristol can visit Canolfan Hermon with new vibrant, modern and quirky ideas so we can keep up with the times.

"We’ve already had a beat boxer champion here called Nat Beats from Newcastle Emlyn as well as the continued support of Corryn Du throughout the project. They have been invaluable especially bringing their new mobile recording studio. At the end of May we had skateboarding demonstrations here too," concluded Nerys.

Nerys has set up a Just Giving page, and if you would like to make a donation you can visit her page.
