It was celebration time at Coleg Ceredigion once again recently as the college celebrated the achievements of its learners at its two annual awards ceremonies.

The events held at the Aberystwyth Campus’ Performing Arts Studio and Cardigan’s Guild Hall were attended by the Mayor of Aberystwyth, Cllr Endaf Edwards, and Mayor of Cardigan, Cllr John Adams Lewis respectively along with staff, family and friends along with governors and local employers.

A total of 73 awards were presented this year across both campuses by the Chair of Governors, Allison Coleman.

During her address, Ms Coleman highlighted that the awards were presented for a variety of achievements ranging from academic excellence to outstanding effort on a personal level. She congratulated each student for their hard work and achievements.

At the Cardigan Campus the college was pleased to be presenting a number of external awards including an award presented to Angelika Haufiku on behalf of Soroptimist International Cardigan and District by Kitty Lee and Patricia Ford, an award given to the college by Jackie Edwards for a Hairdressing student and awarded to Tina Robinson.

The perpetual shield for the college’s Apprentice of the Year donated by former Cardigan Town Mayor Catrin Miles, and presented by the current Mayor, Cllr John Adams Lewis to Carpentry student Trefor Woodgate, the CITB Apprentice of the Year award presented to Tomas Thomas by Richard Gwynn CITB and the Wyn Bowen Memorial Award presented by Gwenda Bowen and Leila Evans to carpentry and joinery student Carwyn Jones.

The Lena Goldstein Prize for Practical Cookery, was awarded to Professional Cookery student Kieran Edward. The award was donated to the college by Professor Dan Cohn-Sherbok – an ex student of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David whose mother Lena Goldstein was formally commended on her cooking skills by the President of the United States, President Eisenhower.

Coleg Ceredigion Principal, Jacqui Weatherburn, commented: “This year’s Award Ceremonies have once again shown that learners are fulfilling their full potential at Coleg Ceredigion. Our Ceremonies in Aberystwyth and Cardigan celebrated steps along a path, challenges overcome, and some huge successes. It was truly heart-warming to see the learners receive their awards, and to hear the citations prepared by their Tutors shared with the audience of family, friends and local dignitaries. A wonderful evening on both campuses.”

The ceremony was followed by a sumptuous buffet expertly prepared and served by the Catering students and staff.
