AN intrepid group of cyclists who are blazing a trail to all the fire stations in Wales arrived in Crymych and Cardigan on Saturday morning.

Fire Ride 2015 is a sponsored cycle ride raising money for the Firefighters Charity and Wales Air Ambulance.

Day 2 of the challenge set off from Fishguard on Saturday morning and travelled up through Crymych to Cardigan.

Three cyclists are undertaking the whole journey through Wales, totalling some 1,500 miles.

They are Cllr Paul James, a county councillor from Aberystwyth and also a member of the Mid and West Wales fire authority, firefighter Charlie Taylor who is a firefighter based at Aberystwyth and Jonathon Evans who recently retired from the Mid and West Wales fire and rescue service where he was a group manager in charge of the Powys Command area. In Cardigan they were joined by crew manager Jason Davies and firefighter Danny Lewis who both serve at Cardigan fire station and Justin Lewis who is the group manager of Ceredigion based in Aberystwyth.

From Cardigan, the group travelled to Newcastle Emlyn then Llandysul and then up to New Quay, Aberaeron, Lampeter and Tregaron before heading on to Aberystwyth for an overnight stop and a very well earned rest before the third day of the challenge in the North Wales fire and rescue service area.

The Cardigan personnel completed their part at Aberystwyth on Saturday night.

The entire cycle ride is expected to take about two weeks to complete and will finish back in Carmarthen, from where it started on Friday morning.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the cyclists may do so by donating through the just giving page that has been set up.
