A nine-year-old from Blaencil-Llech, Newcastle Emlyn, is hitting all the right notes as one of the youngest members of Only Kids Aloud (OKA).

Ysgol y Ddwylan pupil, Fflur Hâf Williams, is one of 100 children aged nine to 13 to be chosen to sing in the Wales Millennium Centre choir.

Fflur is no stranger to singing on the stage; she is a regular eisteddfod competitor, sings in school productions and is a member of Ysgol Cerdd Ceredigion junior choir.

She attributes her singing success to the hard work and enthusiasm of her school music teacher,Mrs Sue Hughes, who encouraged her to audition for Only Kids aloud last February.

Fflur completed the online application form and sent it off with a recording of her singing the song Tyrd i'r Mynydd.

The youngster was chosen from more than 250 entries to go through to the next round of live auditions in Aberystwyth. At these she sang Rwy'n Oer as well as chatting to conductor Tim Rhys- Evans and singer Niall Allen about her interests, hobbies and musical background

The members of the panel were particularly impressed with Fflur's interview and a fortnight later she was invited to be one of the 100 members of the 2015/2016 Chorus.

Since then Fflur, along with experienced OKA member Molly Evans from Drefach Velindre, has already been on two regional rehearsals in Cardiff and has got to know children from all over Wales who share her passion for singing.

Being part of OKA is enriching her learning, allowing her to work with professional singing leaders and perform in high level events.

Projects this year include large scale celebrations for the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl's birth; a spectacular performance outside the Millennium Centre this September; a joint concert with Only Men Aloud and Only Boys Aloud in November and possible involvement in a project commemorating the 50 year anniversary of the Aberfan disaster.

Fflur's proud parents Wendy and Iwan are over the moon at what she has achieved.

"We are delighted that she has had the opportunity to sing in such a prestigious well-renowned chorus," they said. "Her enthusiasm for singing and her persistent hard work has been rewarded and we are looking forward eagerly to seeing her perform in November."
