Ferwig Community Council

THE April meeting of Ferwig Community Council was held on the 13th at Hen Ysgol y Ferwig, with the chairperson, Cllr Des Davies in the chair.

He welcomed all members to the April meeting.

He congratulated two young men from the community, Ll?r Price and Rhys Griffiths, choir conductors who took part in the competition “Côr Cymru 2015”.

Rhys’ choir, “Bois Bro Taf” was successful in the Male Voice Choir category and will be taking part in the final round. Ll?r was conducting “Côr Merched Waunddyfal”.

The Clerk was requested to send both a letter congratulating them on their achievements.

The matter of the sale of the kiosk at Gwbert was discussed.

Two sealed bids had been received. It was agreed to accept the higher bid offered by Mr and Mrs John Williams, Troed-y-rhiw Farm, Ferwig. The notice highlighting the council’s recommendation to sell the kiosk had been publicised for five months.

It was decided that the Council distributes grants in accordance with Sections 137 and 142 of the Finance Act 1996 to the following: Ceredigion Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, G?yl Fawr Aberteifi, Penyparc School PTA, Penyparc Young Farmers’ Club, Adran yr Urdd Penyparc, and Citizens’ Advice Bureau. Further requests will be discussed at the May meeting of the Council.

Correspondence relating to the General Election on May 7 have been received and have been placed in the three noticeboards in the community.

Council members were pleased that the service of the “Cardi Bach” coastal route service from Cardigan to New Quay is now up and running.

It will be provided in 2015-16 to Ceredigion County Council by the Welsh Government. A six day per week service will be maintained throughout the summer until October 31 with a Friday and Saturday service throughout the winter months until March 31.

The service (No. 522) also operates on Thursdays throughout the year to a number of villages along the route.

The chairperson’s lunch was held on April 13 at Cardigan Golf Club – a pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all.

The Annual General Meeting of the council and the next Ordinary Meeting is Monday, May 11, at 7.30pm at Ystafell Berkley, Penyparc. Cllr Lyn Jones (vice-chairperson) is expected to take the chain of office as chairperson for 2015-16.
