Talgarreg's 62nd eisteddfod enjoyed a large turnout of entries of a particularly high standard.

The event, which was held in Talgarreg Village Hall on May 2, saw hundreds of entries in the fields of music, singing, literature, recitation and art.

It was adjudicated by Ivoreen Williams from Capel Hendre, who judged the literature and recitation entries; Eilir Thomas from Clynderwen who judged the music and singing and Robert Blayney from Pontsian who judged the artistic entries.

"It was very well attended, especially at the beginning when we had children from the meithrin, the primary school and the Sunday school attending," said the eisteddfod's vice chairman Cen Llwyd.

"A lot of people who weren't competing came along to sit down and enjoy the entertainment. All the adjudicators said there was a high standard of entries this year. I'm very pleased with how it went."

The winner of this year's chair was Siw Jones from Felin Fach who wrote beautiful and stirring hymn lyrics.

The challenge for the Under 19s literary prize was to enter two pieces of writing in different genres, it was won by Sioned Davies from Gwyddgrug near Pen Cader.

The eisteddfod's planning committee will soon start planning for next year's event.
