Sail dinghy rescue
NEW QUAY’s inshore lifeboat was called out last Tuesday to assist a sailing dinghy in trouble.
The ILB, crewed by station mechanic Ben Billingham and crew members Sarah Perry and Laura Mears was called at 4.50pm after the dingy reported problems off Traethgwyn.
They found that, probably because of the gusty conditions, a cleat had snapped which damaged rigging and rendered the sail inoperable.
Action was quickly taken to secure the dinghy and tow it back to the harbour.

Time stands still
THE old clock at Cawdor Hall, Newcastle Emlyn isn’t playing ball and needs attention.
“It’s miles off time, goes for a while and it stops ,” explained Cllr Maureen Webley, at last week’s meeting of the town council.
Mayor Cllr Gareth Williams said it was dusty when it was taken apart last time, and worked fine after being cleaned and put back together.
Cllr Peter Evans is to take an urgent look at it.
Skatepark design
SEVERAL members of Newcastle Emlyn Town Council met with skateboard users in the town last week to discuss possible future plans of creating a suitable skateboarding area.
“The youngsters are now looking at designs, ways of obtaining funding and areas near the footway between Maes Llewelyn and New Road. There’s a lot of research to be done first,” explained Cllr Hazel Evans.
