Ceredigion County Council is supporting all-Wales collective energy switching scheme Cyd Cymru.

This scheme is based on householders coming together to purchase their electricity and gas, resulting in a stronger buying power and getting the lowest possible price for their gas and electricity.

The more people who get involved and register with Cyd Cymru, the greater the negotiating opportunities which the scheme has and the more likely it will be seen as attractive to the energy suppliers. This will enable householders to receive a better tariff and reduce energy bills.

Cyd Cymru was developed by Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan local authorities in 2013 and last year, the scheme helped households across Wales to save on average £185 per year on their energy bills.

Registration is available to all households in Ceredigion who pay their energy bills directly to an energy company, regardless of household income or property type and includes those on pre-payment meters. It is free to register and switch, with no obligation to switch following registration.

Cllr Gareth Lloyd of Ceredigion County Council said that the Cyd Cymru/Wales Together initiative provides an important opportunity for all Ceredigion’s residents to make real savings by buying energy collectively.

The 2015 registration period runs started runs until March 1, and the switching window takes place between March 2 and 16. For more information visit www.cydcymru-energy.com.
