A Cardigan man was caught speeding while driving his girlfriend’s car without her consent, a court has heard.
Karl Samuel Ward, aged 35, of Myrtle House, Napier Street, represented himself when he appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday.
He pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without third party insurance, without a valid licence and breaking the speed limit.
The court heard that police officers parked at a junction in Cardigan on November 8, spotted a vehicle overtaking and recorded a speed of 55mph in a 40mph area on the A487.
Police followed the Vauxhall Zafira and saw the driver pull over into a quarry and turn the car’s lights off.
Ward was found to be driving the car registered to his girlfriend with a provisional licence, without her permission, and made a full admission to police during an interview.
Magistrates fined Ward a total of £225 for the offences and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
His licence was endorsed with six penalty points.
