An open day was held to celebrate the success of Ceredigion County Council’s Flying Start and Plant Dewi’s work with Llandysul Family Centre this month.

The Right Reverend The Lord Bishop of St Davids officially opened the event where there was an opportunity to see the building and talk to the staff and supporters of the family centre.

Llandysul Family Centre has been going from strength to strength over the past few months and the service will continue to thrive as Plant Dewi have been successful in securing nearly £195,000 from the Big Lottery People and Places Fund to keep the centre open for another three years, with opening hours set to increase in 2015. This will mean that the families of Llandysul and the surrounding area will have continued access to much needed family support services for a number of years.

The range of support available to families will be developed by offering more parenting programmes, as well as for parents of teenagers, hold regular baby massage sessions, breast feeding support and enhance the already popular lunch club.

Rhian Rees, Flying Start Manger said: “We are proud to work in partnership with Plant Dewi and are delighted at their success in securing funding for the next three years. We are particularly pleased for the families of Llandysul who will be able to enjoy the high quality of support offered by the centre.”

Flying Start is a Welsh Government programme which aims to provide more support and opportunities for families with children under the age of four living in the most deprived areas in Wales.

Ceredigion County Council’s Flying Start and Families First programmes commission Plant Dewi to support the development of the Family Centre network across the County.
