The public of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys are to be asked a big weekly question about crime in their communities.

Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon is to run online surveys throughout 2015.

Topics will include drink driving, rural crime, armed police officers, police force mergers, cybercrime, CCTV, weekend crime, Tasers, domestic abuse, hate crime and card fraud.

They follow a survey on how much householders are content to pay for their police through their Council Tax. This closes on January 4 and in its first three weeks had attracted almost 700 responses.

Mr Salmon said: “I want to know what people think about police and crime matters – a series of quick-fire polls is one simple cost-effective way of doing that.

“I urge residents to take the surveys and have their say in how our policing budget of around £100m is spent. I’ll publicise the polls on Twitter, in my newsletters and on my website – and I’ll publish the results of each survey.”

The public’s opinions help the Commissioner to deliver their thoughts to the heart of the police and other key agencies.

He said: “I give people a direct say in our criminal justice system. I set the strategic direction for policing, meet regularly with the Chief Constable to scrutinise the force’s work and I work with other key agencies to keep communities safe.”
