Ceredigion AM Elin Jones has welcomed the publication of an information pack by Hywel Dda Health Board on the next steps for the development of the new Cardigan Hosptial
The local AM expressed support for the fact that progress was continuing on the project, with construction due to commence by autumn 2015.
She said the news comes as reassurance in light of uncertainty over development of the supermarket on the site next-door, but warned that questions still needed addressing over the facilities to be contained in the new building.
Elin Jones said:“The publication of this information pack is another step forward. It confirms that construction is expected to start next year, and that the existing hospital will remain open for day treatment until the new building is open.
“I welcome the commitment to provide a wide range of services in a new purpose-built setting. However questions remain over the provision of beds. As it stands, beds will be outsourced to the community, and it remains to be seen how sustainable an option that is in a rural setting.
She added: “I hope people in the Cardigan area will study the proposals, and give their views to the Health Board on how they’d like to see the project develop.”
