Ceredigion County Council was presented with the Loo of the Year Awards 2014-2015 recently.

In total, the authority won 18 Platinum Awards and 10 Gold Awards for its individual premises which is an excellent improvement on last year’s 12 Platinum and 16 Gold.

The council came first in five National Awards: In House Cleaning Team, Public Toilet, Local Authority, Eco Friendly Toilets, Changing Places Toilet and Toilets in Education.

The council also won 13 national categories as they were judged to be the best of their type in Wales including Leisure Centres, Theatres, Parks and Gardens, Early Schools/Nurseries, Primary School, Day Centres, Offices, Beach Side, Libraries, Special Schools, Car Parks, Unattended Toilets and Attended Toilets.

To top off a very successful award ceremony, Ceredigion was also awarded a Champions League Standards of Excellence Award and also Premiere League Standards of Excellence.

Cllr Alun Williams, Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Carbon Management said: “Ceredigion County Council has been held in high regard in the field of public conveniences for several years and has regularly featured in these UK awards alongside councils such as Westminster and Brighton and Hove. It is especially remarkable that this standard has been maintained this year at a time of central government funding cuts.

“The many council staff who help to provide our facilities, whether they be cleaners or administrators, can take considerable pride in their achievements and members of the public, whether local people or visitors, can be sure that, wherever they go in the county, they can find public conveniences of a very high, modern standard.”
