Ceredigion AM Elin Jones has welcomed the news that the Welsh Government intends to launch the ‘Ultrafast Connectivity Voucher’ in its Local Growth Zones, including the Teifi Valley.

The voucher will enable businesses within the Growth Zones which require faster than usual internet connections to access faster broadband than that which will be available under the current ‘Superfast’ project.

The connection could take the form of fibre optic cables directly to the premises, or dedicated wireless solutions.

Elin Jones said:

“I know of a number of businesses which, because of the nature of the work they undertake, would benefit from ultra-fast download and upload speeds. This could be the case, for instance, in music and other creative industries, publishing and mapping.

“This will only be available in the Local Growth Zones at present rather than across Wales, but I hope that this is a sign of tangible progress on the measures we can expect to see in the Teifi Valley Growth Zone, which would encourage business growth.

“I see fast broadband as a crucial ingredient in Ceredigion’s future economic prosperity, and I will continue to press for a full roll-out of this kind of support to the whole of Ceredigion and to ensure that all companies and residential premises to have access to the fastest possible internet connection.”
