Club Cosy, a scheme to promote bulk fuel buying and energy efficiency in Ceredigion was launched last week.

The scheme, which has the support of Mark Williams MP and Elin Jones AM, is co-ordinated by Ymlaen Ceredigion on behalf of Ceredigion Council.

Ymlaen Ceredigion Director Rachel Lilley said: “This is a pilot in Wales which will show how communities can work together to buy fuel and become more energy efficient. It is a great opportunity to address fuel poverty and reduce unnecessary carbon emissions. What we learn in Ceredigion will be shared across Wales and the UK.”

There are currently nine oil buying syndicates covering different parts of Ceredigion, all run by volunteer co-ordinators.

Club Cosy will be running events over the next few months throughout the county to publicise the groups, to support co-ordinators wishing to start new groups and to share information on the best ways to become energy efficient and access grants and support.

They are also working with West Wales Credit Union to promote a saving scheme specially designed to help people save to buy fuel and with NEST to direct people to grant schemes.
