Explore Your Archive Week is happening all over Wales from 10th – 15th November. In Ceredigion it’s a great big invitation to everyone to come and Explore Your Archive !
Ceredigion Archives, the county record office, is in the Alun R. Edwards Centre, at the Old Town Hall Aberystwyth. There are brilliant collections of documents, photos, maps and other items about the history of this county which everyone can come and see for free.
Whether you’re doing your family history, a school project, local history research, or university work there’s something for everyone at Ceredigion Archives. There are documents about the history of the county going back nearly 500 years, and also free access to specialist internet sites like Ancestry.com . The staff at the archives are knowledgeable and friendly and can help you get started on your research. Even if your ancestors don’t come from Cardiganshire there’s still lots you can do on-line !

Explore Your Archive Week is all about attracting new users to the Archives. Ceredigion Archives has received support from CyMAL, Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales to promote the service by an advertising campaign. During Explore Your Archive Week you may find your favourite café is using special bright pink Explore Your Archive napkins – there’ll also be a poster and leaflets giving more information about the Archives.
Between 10th – 15th November there will be an exhibition of material from the Archives in Aberystwyth Library Meeting Room – and upstairs in the Archives itself. There will be tours of the Archives at 11am every weekday ( tours will take about 20 minutes – it’s all very compact!) and pre-booking is advised. On Saturday 15th November 10am – 12, there will be a History Hunt in Aberystwyth for children aged 5 – 10 and their parents. Pick up the Clues Book at the Library and Archives in the Old Town Hall. Every child who completes the History Hunt will get a prize and a certificate !
