Rocesi’r Fro in the Gwaun Valley is a committee of ladies that meets monthly to enjoy different activities together, but more important are their fundraising activities and in their meeting in October they presented the latest lucky recipients.

Stephen Roberts from the Ambulance Service and Peter Davies, a First Responders volunteer from the Newport area were welcomed to the meeting.

During the discussion on where to present their money this year, Rocesi’r Fro discovered that there was a small but growing group of volunteers working as First Responders in their area and made the unanimous decision to present them with a defibrillator.

Stephen and Peter told the women of Rocesi’r Fro more about their work. The ambulance has responded to 16,500 calls between January and September this year alone in the South of Wales. Peter went on to explain that they are short of volunteers and that if anyone is interested in joining they would welcome them with open arms. The First Responders carry a bag of essential medical equipment with them at all times when on duty. As they also need more of these in the Newport area Rocesi’r Fro decided that they would also fund one of these bags at an extra cost of £130. In the picture the officials are seen presenting the defibrillator and bag to Stephen and Peter.
