The all-weather lifeboat at New Quay was called out shortly before 2.30pm on Friday, 10 October to assist a 30 foot yacht in trouble three miles off New Quay head.

The vessel had suffered a fouled propeller compelling its crew to contact the Coastguard for assistance.

New Quay all-weather lifeboat Frank and Lena Clifford of Stourbridge made speedy progress to the scene with coxswain Daniel Potter at the helm accompanied by Bernard Davies acting as mechanic, Simon Rigby, Mike Evans, Laura Mears, Stuart Kinsey and Sarah Cossins.

A quick assessment of the situation determined that the appropriate course of action was to tow the yacht into New Quay harbour and this was accomplished without incident. After securing the yacht to a mooring, members of the volunteer lifeboat crew succeeded with cutting equipment to free the propeller enabling the yacht to proceed on its way on the following day.
