ATTEMPTS by villagers along the Ceredigion coast to save their local Cardi Bach bus service are being backed by Shadow Welsh Transport Minister Byron Davies.

Mr Davies, who is a Welsh Conservative. said: “Bus services in Wales are in chaos. The Welsh Labour Government has cut £8m from bus services and operators are left grappling with a huge black hole in their budgets.

“The Cardi Bach has been running for ten years and serves the coastal villages between New Quay and Cardigan. Its loss would be devastating not just to the many visitors who use it but also to local communities. Many people cannot afford to run a car so buses like this are literally a lifeline.

“Labour talks about social inclusion – where is the inclusion for pensioners and others who will no longer be able to get to their doctor, bank or shops? They will be dependent on neighbours or family for lifts or will have to get a taxi which could be ruinously expensive.

“It’s time that this government sat down and drew up a rational strategy for bus services. Much of Wales is very rural – but these areas tend not to vote Labour so are often overlooked when it comes to the allocation of public finances and the provision of services.”
