A local housing association has been criticised for acting like "a bull at a gate" with its housing policies.

Cardigan town councillors at their meeting this week congratulated campaigners in Maesglas for winning a planning appeal over their play area.

Tai Ceredigion had wanted to build nine new homes on the site but the scheme was thrown out by a Welsh Assembly inspector.

"Residents are to be congratulated," said Cllr John Adams-Lewis.

And he added: "I wonder how much of tax payers money was spent by Tai Ceredigion in fighting these appeals."

The housing association has made four applications to build on the play area - and all have failed.

Cllr Llwyd Edwards said they should consult with the town council and local people to see where the best areas were to build.

"They are like a bull at a gate," he said. "There's no sense in it."

Cllr Adams-Lewis also called on Tai Ceredigion to complete other building schemes that were ongoing in the town.

"They say there is a lack of flats in the town but the development at Maes yr Haf has been left looking like a bomb site."
