A night of celebration is being planned at Cardigan Rugby Club to honour chaired bard Ceri Wyn Jones.

The evening - on Friday, September 19 - will also recognise the achievement of local choir Ar Ol Tri who took the best choir crown for the 11th time at this year's National Eisteddfod in Llanelli.

The night will include a vote of thanks from Dic Thomas, a trustee of Cadwgan, whose work to restore Cardigan Castle featured in the winning poem. Cadwgan are providing refreshments for the evening as a mark of appreciation, The town council will also be presenting the bard with a special award.

Cllr Gwynfi Jenkins, told this week's town council: "This really is out of the ordinary."

And Cllr Llwyd Edwards said: "Cardigan must be the only town to have this sort of honour. It deserves to be celebrated."

The evening starts at 7.30pm.
