A psychiatrist is to be asked to assess a Blaenporth man accused of setting a fire that caused more than £30,000 worth of damage.

The case of Christopher Jordan Strong, aged 21, was discussed during a preliminary hearing before Judge Keith Thomas at Swansea crown court on Friday.

Strong, of Pantcoch, Bowls Road, is accused of destroying buildings, vehicles and other property to the value of £31,297.30, belonging to Kelvin Neville, on May 4.

His barrister, John Hipkin, told the court a psychiatrist would examine Strong before he is asked to enter a plea at a hearing on November 21.

Strong was released on bail until then.
