A group of local Explorer Scouts from the Teifi District recently returned from a 14 day expedition to Sweden to complete their Explorer Belt challenge.

The group of ten left flew out to Sweden to begin the expedition on August 12 and returned to the UK on August 25.

The ten day 160km hike included challenges to be completed challenges along the way, planned by the Explorers in three groups.

Each group had to plan their own route around the Nykoping area of Sweden following the beautiful Sormland Trails, where they met local people and learnt about the Swedish way of life.

All camping equipment, food, water and clothes had to be carried in their rucksacks, which weighed between 15 and 20 kgs, and the challenge proved a battle of strength, organisation, team work and self discipline.

After completing the expedition the group travelled to Stockholm for two days sightseeing and relaxation before heading home.

The Scouts will make their presentation to the leaders in a month’s time to fully complete the challenge and obtain their Explorer Belt.

Taking part were Explorer Scouts Sam Young, Nia Jardine, Eliza Trigwell,Sioned Bryant, Leah Sier, Rhys Morris, Atma Black, Catrin Pink, Geraint Evans and Osian Pearson.

Leaders were John Barrett, Alex Pitchford and Eva Cowcher.
