Ceredigion’s Plaid Cymru AM Elin Jones has called on the Welsh Government to support innovation in farming following productive meetings between the Minister, the local AM and NFU representatives at Cardigan Show.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart visited Cardigan Show at Elin Jones’s invitation, just a few days after assuming new responsibilities for the farming industry and rural development.

The Minister had an in-depth discussion with local members of the National Farmers Union on the show field, and Elin Jones has now written to the Government to make the case for direct support for innovation in the industry.

Elin Jones, local AM for Ceredigion, said,

“The Minister had a very fruitful dialogue with local farmers on a number of issues, including the need to incentivise mixed grazing in the uplands, and particularly on support for farmers to innovate.

“Farmers currently receive valuable support from Farming Connect, and in looking to the future a balance needs to be struck. Direct support for farm innovation and productivity via investment grants is something the industry really requires.

“I thank the local branch of the NFU for arranging the meeting, and for engaging in a very informed and constructive dialogue with the Minister.”
