Macmillan Cancer Support is running a free course in Cardigan to help people to manage the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis.

The programme will run at the Small World Theatre on Bath House Road on Wednesdays for six weeks from September 10.

Called Helping to Overcome Problems Effectively (HOPE), Macmillan’s new self-management courses will run from 10.30am to 1pm.

Macmillan is offering HOPE to anyone living with a cancer diagnosis. Topics the course focuses on include managing stress, fatigue and body image and living positively with the fear of recurrence.

Sue Plouman, aged 63 from Cardigan who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 attended the course in November last year.

She said: “An acquaintance told me about the HOPE programme and I decided to find out what it was all about. It was very interesting and I made some new friends, but most importantly I realise I was not alone in my thoughts and feelings regarding cancer and its aftermath.

“My perspective on life and my future have changed for the better and I learnt a lot on how to improve my diet, exercise and thought process. I really enjoyed the programme and I would highly recommend it to others who have had an encounter with cancer.”

People wishing to attend the course must register in advance, contact Genette Webster on 01656 867960 or email gwebster@macmillan.org.uk.

Macmillan can only fund programmes such as this thanks to the generosity of the public.
