Ceredigion celebrated UK National Play Day earlier this month by holding the 6th annual Children and Young People's Festival on Aberaeron Square Field. Twenty seven different organisations came together to showcase the services available for children and families in the county and each delivered a variety of free of charge activities. ‘Free activities and free admission, makes the event a much anticipated and affordable day out for families, ‘ said Gill Hopley, Councillor and Cabinet Member with an anti-poverty agenda. Activities on the field included the ever popular climbing wall, provided by Youth Services and Teifi Paddlers, bird boxes, brick laying, hammering and sawing, arts and crafts and the RAY Ceredigion smoothie bike. Organiser of the event, Gill Byrne of RAY Ceredigion, said, 'It's a lot of work to organise the event but it worth it as it has become a standard part of Ceredigion's summer calendar. At least 3,000 people, mainly local families, attended this year and everyone enjoyed themselves. Keeping the event totally free of charge makes it accessible for everyone.'
