SPECSAVERS in Cardigan has raised more than £300 for a cancer charity through the generous donations from its customers.

In total the store has raised £312 for Velindre Cancer Centre, the Charity of the Year for Specsavers stores across Wales in 2014.

The money was raised from customers making a donation to the cause, instead of paying for minor repairs to their glasses, such as adjustments to their glasses’ arms and nose pads and tightening screws.

Heledd Hallett, director of Specsavers in Cardigan, said: ‘I am delighted that the Cardigan store has already raised such a fantastic amount this year for Velindre, and it is thanks to the generosity of our customers that we’ve been able to achieve this.

‘Velindre is a hugely deserving cause that helps families throughout Wales who are affected by cancer. Specsavers branches across Wales raised £7,000 for Velindre in 2013, and I am sure our continued efforts in store will put us well on our way to topping that amount this year.’

Velindre Cancer Centre is Wales’ largest non-surgical cancer hospital, providing support and specialist treatment to cancer patients and their families across Wales. It cares for over 130,000 outpatients and day cases every year.
