The future of general medical services in Aberaeron is to come under the microscope after the retirement of a local GP.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is planning future delivery of general medical services to patients in Aberaeron and surrounding areas after receiving notice of retirement from Dr Price-Jones, Oxford Street Surgery.

Dr Price-Jones will retire on 31 October but will provide care and treatment to patients up until that point. Currently, approximately 1,000 patients are registered at the surgery.

Interim Executive Director of Primary Care, Community, Mental Health and Clinical Strategy Dr Phil Kloer said: “On behalf of the University Health Board, I would like to thank Dr Price-Jones for his service to the NHS and local community and we wish him all the best in his retirement.

“We will now work closely with other local GPs, the Local Medical Committee and the Community Health Council to consider options for future delivery of general medical services to patients registered at Oxford Street Surgery.”

A University Health Board meeting to discuss options available will be held later in August, following which letters will be sent to each household on the practice list to provide information and guidance. In the meantime, patients are asked to remain registered at Oxford Street Surgery as the service there will continue until the close of October.

If patients have any concerns, they can contact the University Health Board’s Patient Support Service on 0300 0200 159.
