The Royal British Legion has announced a partnership with Ceredigion County Council in Aberystwyth which will place an additional Legion presence in the council’s offices at Canolfan Rheidol on the last Wednesday of each month.

This new service is part of nationwide changes recently undertaken by The Royal British Legion to make its welfare services more accessible to the Armed Forces past and present, and their families, across the UK.

The Aberystwyth drop-in is one of a number of planned new outreach locations across Wales which will offer a knowledgeable and dedicated support worker as a face-to-face point of contact for those in need of help and advice from the Legion.

The Legion service will be accessible at Canolfan Rheidol once a month 10.00 am – 1.00 pm. It will be provided by Legion Case Officer Louise Williams.

Phil Jones, Wales Area Manager for The Royal British Legion said:

‘The Legion is a national organisation but with a footprint in the local community across the Wales. This latest partnership with Ceredigion County Council in Aberystwyth shows our commitment to making our welfare services as accessible as possible to our beneficiaries across the region. Ceredigion have signed up to the Armed Forces Community Covenant and have really embraced its principles, and this partnership is an excellent example of the Covenant in action. We are very grateful to Ceredigion County Council for providing this outreach location and hope it will offer a valuable service to the Armed Forces community in Ceredigion ’.

Councillor Paul Hinge, Armed Forces Champion for Ceredigion said:

"I'm delighted that we are able to offer this service for the County. Unlike many other areas in Wales we don't have a Regular Service Unit in the county but we do have reservists, families of regular servicemen/women and their families as well as veterans and their dependents all of whom can avail themselves of this service. In hosting this service the Council is showing its full commitment to the Covenant and as an ex-serviceman myself I'm proud that we can do this in Ceredigion."

In 2013, the Legion provided services and grants to over 200,000 Service personnel, veterans and dependents and spent £10k per hour on welfare support.
