Adding insult to injury - that's the opinion of fed-up residents in Gloster Row, Cardigan, after resurfacing of a nearby car park left a mess.
Residents are already fuming that they will have to pay £230 a year to park in the car park where they have been parking free for decades.
But they are furious after resurfacing work left clumps of uneven tarmac that was trodden on and brought into homes, gouges caused by car tyres and footprints left by pedestrians, plus the surface started peeling off hours after it was laid.
"It really is adding insult to injury," said resident Olwen Davies.
"I've never seen such a mess. I've just had new carpets laid and I'm absolutely furious. It was a really hot day when they laid the surface and it was so sticky it was coming off in clumps."
Local county councillor Catrin Miles contacted Ceredigion who are asking the contractors to revisit the site.
Residents - and any other motorists - will have to start paying to use the car park from August 11.
