Local school boy 11 year-old Dylan Davies of Beulah was awarded the Simmental Youngstock Person at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show last week after his duties in the cattle shed and cattle rings were recognised.

Dylan, eldest son of Gethin and Elisabeth of Llys y Wennol was helping champion Simmental breeder and neighbour Aled Davies of Hirwaun Simmentals, Ponthirwaun.

Dylan had no idea he was entered for the annual competition against youngstock helpers under the age of 30 from across Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

"I helped Aled to wash, feed, water and bed the bulls. I also led the bulls and helped Aled in the ring," said a delighted Dylan who was very honoured and shocked to have received the shield.

'"He really enjoyed his time at the show and winning this award means so much," added mum Lis.

"Hopefully, Dylan will join a local YFC Club when he starts secondary school in September and you never know, a bull might be joining us here at Llys y Wennol in the next few years for Dylan to show."
